Technical Conference

Tuesday–Thursday, April 1–3
The Shows’ conference is the most highly regarded in the world for our industry. Through a competitive abstract review, the finest papers were selected. Nearly 40 percent of the speakers will come from outside the United States to present research findings with a global impact. Sessions will cover the spectrum of issues for boards, design and assembly — from supply chain and eco-compliance to process issues, materials and advanced technology. Find the solutions you need from the brightest minds in the industry.

Professional Development

Sunday–Monday, March 30–31 and Thursday, April 3
With 23 new full- and half-day courses this year, as well as others back by popular demand, you’ll find just the right expert presenter to help you become more knowledgeable and productive. While lead-free technology remains a focus for every area from design to test, courses are available to help you tackle other industry issues.

Standards Development
Committee Meetings

Saturday–Wednesday, March 30–April 2
More than 80 standards development meetings will take place at this year’s shows. You are invited to participate in one or more standards development meetings that delve into pressing industry issues — and ultimately result in the standards used by your customers, competitors and suppliers. Engage in the discussions; it’s a great opportunity to share your knowledge, voice your concerns, ensure the needs of your company are represented, and gain a broader perspective of the topics and issues at stake. Help shape the future of the electronics interconnect industry by contributing your time and expertise to the development of industry standards.

Free Forums

Tuesday–Thursday April 1–3
These interactive sessions provide expert looks at the industry’s hot issues. Technical papers are not required of the presenters, so you’ll want to be there to hear firsthand their candid thoughts and expectations for the future.

  • iNEMI Lead-Free Review
  • Safety in the Electronics Industry
  • Lead-Free Reliability — Where Are We Now?
  • Material Preselection Through a New Database for PCBs at UL
  • Counterfeit/Trusted “How Do I Know It’s the Real McCoy?”
  • Best Practices for Exempt Manufacturers in a Lead-Free World

Designers Summit

Sunday–Thursday, March 30–April 3
If you have interest in design, you won’t want to miss the Designers Summit — a focused design program that includes a look into the future of the design industry — how to prepare and what you can do to stay competitive, lead free considerations, design trends, designing for high speed, and much more!

Executive Management Programs

Monday, March 31, 7:30 am–9:00 pm
Exclusively for leaders of PCB and EMS companies, the two Executive Management Programs are the only forums that address the unique issues of industry decision makers. PCB and EMS executives from around the world will gather in their respective meetings to learn from some of the industries’ top experts, participate in in-depth, roundtable discussions and to hold valuable peer interchange. These closed door meetings are rare opportunities to learn from the experiences of high level peers. Registration includes the meeting and a networking dinner.

Having Fun and Changing
the World
Rodney Brooks, Ph.D., Director of M.I.T.’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory

Rodney Brooks

Fun is never far away when Rodney Brooks explains his passion for invention and discovery. A technology visionary, ground-breaking scientist, creative entrepreneur, and according to Time Magazine, “a voluble Australian … famous for finding radical, counterintuitive approaches to intractable problems,” Brooks is arguably the world’s most important figure in robotics. If there is a leading edge in the world of technology, his spectacular career has certainly been spent exploring it.

Brooks has played a major role in some of the most exciting, state-of-the-art inventions in a field bursting with ingenuity. The company he founded, iRobot, deftly combines the latest artificial intelligence technology with easy-to-use interfaces, to develop robots for government, industry, scientific research and kids who want to have fun.
Join IPC for this fascinating exploration, as Brooks skillfully addresses the Big Questions that have traditionally been the domain of fiction writers and fantasists:

  • Can robots “think,” “feel” and be “alive”?
  • When does artificial intelligence stop being artificial?
  • What’s the distinction between conscious and unconscious?

Dr. Brooks received degrees in Pure Mathematics from Flinders University of South Australia and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University. He is a Founding Fellow of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Zenaida Valianu

We’re reducing cycle times and saving money because of APEX!

I was able to compare products and eventually find the ones with the precision, control and functionality to meet business needs. The ultimate impact on a company is in the quality of reworks, reduced cycle times, and significant savings.

I’ll be back in 2008 to help keep our corporation at peak performance.
